If you thought Florida had only two seasons – hot and hotter – listen up.

While millions of you are enduring the last weeks of Winter, in Vero Beach, Florida

Spring has sprung!

What does Spring in Florida look like?  And we’re not talking about the snowbirds who arrive to escape Old Man Winter or the families here for Spring break. We mean the Mother Nature kind of Spring.

In our beloved barrier island community of Vero Beach, Spring offers 2 notable but subtle signs for those in the know:

  1. Greatly diminished humidity!
Less humidity means we throw open our doors, turn off the AC, and relish life in our outside spaces.  These weeks from December through April are heavenly, and the stuff we dream of when envisioning living in Florida.

  2. Greening of our beloved Live Oaks + new growth on almost everything!
Our stately Live Oaks drop their leaves – and bloom with truly ‘spring green’ new growth – a telltale sign of Spring in Florida.

  3. Palm Trees bloom!
Who knew that Palm pollen is a thing? You may get the sniffles from them or the Live Oaks. And just about any other ornamental tree and shrub – often large-format versions of smaller indoor plants in colder climates – come alive with new growth.

As April transitions into May the humidity begins to increase, and dominates throughout the Summer when we all try to conduct any outdoor activities early or late in the day.

But until then, YAY to Spring in Florida!

If you’re new to Florida you may not notice these subtle shifts at first. As you become familiar with our seasons, you too will be embracing Spring in Florida!
